Apple Thunderbolt Display Ethernet not working... and how to fix it

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

I've connected my MacBook Pro Retina (running Mavericks) to an Apple Thunderbolt Display 27", then plugged my Ethernet cable to the Display and... no way! It didn't connect to the LAN.

Trying several network configurations it didn't solve the issue.
Then I've tried deleting the old network configurations. It worked!

So,

  1. unplug the Thunderbolt Display (important)
  2. run the command: sudo rm /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
  3. restart your Mac
  4. plug the Thunderbolt cable to the MacBook again

It should work (or check your Network Preferences, at least the Ethernet should be active and then it can be properly configured).
