JSR 311 - The Java API for RESTful Web Services

Wednesday, September 12, 2007

In this post I want to write about the JSR 311, JAX-RS, the Specification Request which will develop an API for providing support for RESTful (Representational State Transfer) Web Services in the Java Platform. This Specification aims to provide a high-level and easy-to use API in order to allow a "simple" RESTful Web Services implementation. This JSR is targeted for inclusion in a future release of Java SE and Java EE platforms. A subset of this JSR could also be included in a future release of Java ME.
A first Reference Implementation (!!!) is represented by project Jersey, inside Glassfish projects stack, which, correctly, will not reach release 1.0 until the JAX-RS will be approved and finally released. Let's go to see a getting-started example of Jersey!
